Woojune Kim is the Corporate President and Head of Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. He has been leading Samsung's Networks Business since December 2022.
Previously, as the Head of Global Sales & Marketing, Woojune expanded Samsung's 4G/5G collaboration with leading carriers around the globe across North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and beyond, especially with a focus on virtualization and Open RAN. Starting with the commercial launch of 5G in the US, Japan and Korea, he has lead commercialization of 5G by developing strategic partnerships with global operators and partners to drive innovation.
He has held key positions at Samsung, leading Global Product Strategy, Next Generation Network Strategy and America Business teams. Under his leadership, Samsung Networks has made significant gains in the global market, especially with the introduction of 5G and virtualization technology.
Woojune has over 20 years of extensive experience in the telecommunications industry, starting his career as a systems engineer at Lucent Technologies Bell Labs (Murray Hill), where he worked on the first ATM PON/FTTH networks. He joined Samsung in 1999 and helped develop the world’s first commercial CDMA2000 3G system. Later he joined Airvana Inc., where he served as Vice President of Technology and CTO of Femtocells. In this role, he led the company’s marketing and development teams to develop new and innovative wireless products including 4G LTE RAN, small cells, and security and access gateways.
He earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University in Korea.
