As of February 2025, 72 operator groups and 34 channel partners have joined the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, representing 78.5% of global mobile connections. This surge reflects the industry’s commitment to combating fraud, enhancing digital security and creating new use cases through standardised network APIs. In LATAM, operators are accelerating commercial launches, with key use cases in SIM Swap, Number Verification, and OTP SMS services.
Although network APIs have existed for years, recent initiatives focus on scalable solutions that support new revenue streams and innovative applications like identity, payments, communications quality and edge computing. Collaborations with aggregators and hyperscalers will be crucial in driving developer adoption and success region-wide and sustainable growth.
