Session Description
Telcos and satellite providers are forging transformative partnerships to bridge connectivity gaps across Latin America. Despite telecom networks covering over 95% of the world’s population, significant areas remain underserved, particularly remote, maritime, and polar regions. Recent advances in satellite technology and non‑terrestrial networks including LEO satellites, high‑altitude platform stations, and UAVs have unlocked cost‑effective, scalable solutions to overcome these limitations. Standardization efforts by 3GPP facilitate the integration of satellite connectivity into existing mobile networks, driving innovative use cases such as service continuity, direct‑to‑device communications, and enhanced backhaul for 5G deployments. These initiatives promise improved digital security, broadband access, IoT applications, and emergency services, transforming connectivity in challenging environments.
