Session Description

Please note that the roundtable is by invitation only. For more information, please contact gkamiya@gsma.com

Southeast Asia is one of the world’s most dynamic regions, with rapid economic growth and digitalisation driving demand for energy. But many countries in the region are dependent on imported fossil fuels, and the recent energy crisis is a stark reminder of their vulnerability to price volatility and supply disruptions. The region is also on the frontline of climate change, facing rising sea levels, extreme heat, and increasingly frequent typhoons and floods that threaten critical infrastructure, including mobile networks.

Renewable energy can help mobile operators reduce costs, enhance resilience, and meet ambitious climate targets. But operators in many ASEAN markets face significant barriers to scaling up renewables, including limited procurement options and high costs. The highly distributed nature of mobile network infrastructure also requires tailored solutions that differ from centralised loads such as factories and data centres.

This closed-door, invitation-only roundtable, held under Chatham House Rule, will feature the launch of the GSMA’s new report, Mobile Net Zero Asia Pacific, and bring together senior leaders and experts from mobile operators and tower companies cross ASEAN and beyond to share experiences on accessing renewable energy and explore practical approaches to strengthen network resilience in the face of a changing climate.
