Speaker Bio

Associate Professor Datuk Dr. Ahmad Kusyairi Khalid graduated from National University of Ireland, Cork, Republic of Ireland. He underwent basic surgical training in Ireland and subsequently returned to Malaysia where he pursued specialist training in Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS) at the National University of Malaysia (UKM). He is also a certified Robotic ENT Surgeon as he completed the Da Vinci System Training as a Console Surgeon (Robotic Surgery for ORL-HNS) from the Intuitive Surgical and Yonsei University Hospital, Seoul, Korea. He also completed a clinical fellow attachment in Sleep Surgery at Singapore General Hospital, and another fellowship attachment for Head and Neck Oncology Surgery at the National University of Malaysia. He is currently an Associate Professor at KPJ Healthcare University where he is the Course Director for Robotic Surgery in Head and Neck training. To date, he has received local and international fellows as well as proctoring surgeons who are starting their robotic head and neck training.


He has been invited as a national and international speaker at various conferences regularly to share about his expertise in starting and sustaining the robotic surgery programme in Malaysia. He has also been invited to perform live surgeries for training purposes at local and international settings. His publication “Practising transoral robotic surgery in a middle-income country: surgical outcomes and early challenges” has been exemplary for other countries who are starting to embark on this programme. He has been appointed as part of the Advisory Committee for Robotic Surgery at various institutions and assists with setting up robotic programs for local universities including Universiti Malaya and Universiti Putra Malaysia.
